ULTRASOUND SOLUTIONS CORP. is delighted to welcome backMargaret “Koko” Park, BS, ACS, RVT, RDCS, FSDMS, FASE, Lead HVI Imaging Specialist at the Cleveland Clinic Heart, Vascular and Thoracic Institute, for a deep dive into analysis of the Left Atrial chamber.
Course Description:
Left Atrial (LA) assessment has shown to be a reliable predictor of adverse cardiac events, including prevalent pathologies such as atrial fibrillation, diastolic dysfunction, heart failure, stroke, and death. Recent findings report LA function is a more robust marker than LA size alone. Additionally, the increased use of Left Atrial Appendage (LAA) occlusion techniques for the prevention of stroke has gained in popularity as device stability and design advancements have evolved. This course will review the recommended echocardiographic methods for LA evaluation, volumetric analysis, LA strain, LA Appendage morphology, and an introduction to LAA devices. (Approved for 1 SDMS CME credit, provided one is present for the entire event)
Course Objectives:Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to:
Describe the common echocardiographic errors in Left Atrial (LA) assessment, and how to correct for an accurate analysis.
State the normal echocardiographic reference values for Left Atrial size and function, and the impact of age, sex, and race on measurements of LA structure and function.
Explain the three phases of LA function and how to assess using LA strain.
Discuss LA appendage anatomy.
List devices used to occlude the LA appendage for the prevention of LAA thrombosis.

Important update from the SDMS:
SDMS no longer allows its CME providers to issue Partial Credit for attendance. If you join late or leave early, the SDMS will no longer permit us to award partial pro-rated credit.
Therefore, from now on, in order to receive CME credit, you must be in attendance for the ENTIRE event via your own unique Zoom link that Zoom emailed to you when you registered. Then, and only then, will USC be able to award you any credit. So, please be prompt and attentive to the time schedule. We apologize for any inconvenience, but again, this is a new SDMS policy we must abide by. Thank you for understanding.
