Fetal Echo – The Requisites

ULTRASOUND SOLUTIONS CORP. is excited to welcome back Dr. Joy Guthrie, PhD, ACS, RDMS, RDCS, RVT, FSDMS, FASE, Program Director of the Community Regional Medical Center Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Advanced Cardiac Sonography Programs, for an enlightening discussion on Fetal Echocardiography.

Course Description:

Performance of fetal echocardiography requires a special set of skills and knowledge, which includes understanding not only fetal cardiac anatomy and physiology, but also a perception of the significance of detecting congenital heart disease prior to birth. This presentation will cover the “hows” and “whys” of fetal cardiac examinations and will introduce our speaker’s “CHRISTMAS CAROL” method of detecting congenital heart disease (CHD). (Approved for 1 SDMS CME credit, provided one is present for the entire event)

Course Objectives:  Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to:

• List maternal risk factors for fetal CHD.
• State indications for fetal echocardiographic evaluations.
• Discuss the suggested use of instrumentation for evaluation of fetal cardiac anatomy and physiology.
• Describe a protocol for evaluating fetal CHD.
• State the anatomy and physiology demonstrated in fetal echocardiograms.
• Discuss some common congenital heart defects seen during fetal echocardiograms.

About Our Speaker: 

Joy Guthrie, PhD, ACS, RDMS, RDCS, RVT, FSDMS, FASE, works clinically as the Advanced Practice Sonographer in all imaging modalities at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, CA. She is also the Program Director of the CRMC Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Advanced Cardiac Sonography Programs. Joy is a Past President of SDMS and is actively involved in sonographer-led research.

This activity is an approved SDMS CME activity – approved for 1.0 SDMS CME credit.

Please note that partial credit will not be issued.

 The CME participant roster will be reported by Ultrasound Solutions Corp. to the

SDMS CME Tracker System.

Important update from the SDMS:

SDMS no longer allows its CME providers to issue Partial Credit for attendance. If you join late or leave early, the SDMS will no longer permit us to award partial pro-rated credit.

Therefore, from now on, in order to receive CME credit, you must be in attendance for the ENTIRE event via your own unique Zoom link that Zoom emailed to you when you registered. Then, and only then, will USC be able to award you any credit. So, please be prompt and attentive to the time schedule. We apologize for any inconvenience, but again, this is a new SDMS policy we must abide by. Thank you for understanding.
