Mindfulness in Sonography: It’s Not What You Think

ULTRASOUND SOLUTIONS CORP. is delighted to welcome back MARIE FICOCIELLO, MA, RDCS, FASE, Assistant Professor and Clinical Coordinator at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, for an insightful look at how mindfulness can improve work and patient outcomes.

Course Description:

Studies show that Sonographers face burnout and high levels of stress. The practice of mindfulness has been demonstrated to decrease stress, increase present-moment awareness, and improve overall well-being. This benefits both patients and healthcare workers because mindful caregiving is known to positively impact patient health outcomes. In this event, Marie will share her personal experience and explain how the science of mindfulness can lead to better self-care and enhanced happiness and well-being for all. (Approved for 1 SDMS CME credit, provided one is present for the entire event)

Course Objectives:  Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Define and explain the reality of mindfulness in everyday living
  • Debunk the myths of meditation
  • Share the benefits (based on evidence-based research) of why mindfulness is so important in healthcare
  • Explain the importance of mindfulness for Sonographers
  • Teach some practical applications of mindfulness and provide follow-up resources

About Our Speaker:

Marie Ficociello, MA, RDCS, FASE, is an Assistant Professor and Clinical Coordinator for the Echocardiography Program at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts. In addition, she is a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography and the Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging Case Reports.

Marie has 29 years of experience in both adult and pediatric echocardiography. Her initial training was at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. While there, she began teaching Cardiac Fellows. Along the way, she has worked with many students and Sonographers new to the field.

Marie has recently become certified as a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Koru Mindfulness Instructor. She looks forward to opportunities that will enlighten her audience with the benefits of mindfulness in daily life.

This activity is an approved SDMS CME activity – approved for 1.0 SDMS CME credit.

Please note that partial credit will not be issued.

The CME participant roster will be reported by Ultrasound Solutions Corp. to the

SDMS CME Tracker System.

Important update from the SDMS:

SDMS no longer allows its CME providers to issue Partial Credit for attendance. If you join late or leave early, the SDMS will no longer permit us to award partial pro-rated credit.

Therefore, from now on, in order to receive CME credit, you must be in attendance for the ENTIRE event via your own unique Zoom link that Zoom emailed to you when you registered. Then, and only then, will USC be able to award you any credit. So, please be prompt and attentive to the time schedule.
