ULTRASOUND SOLUTIONS CORP. is excited to introduceTara Cielma, BS, RT(S), RDMS, RDCS, RVT, FSDMS, Sonography Research Specialist at the Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC, for an innovative discussion on Pediatric tonsils and vocal cord sonography.
Course Description:
This course provides an in-depth examination of the anatomy, pathology, and sonographic imaging of pediatric tonsils and vocal cords. Through a methodical approach, participants will explore and identify the key anatomical structures and pathologies, as well as understand how to support the clinical team in the assessment and management of tonsil and vocal cord pathologic conditions. (Approved for 1 SDMS CME credit, provided one is present for the entire event)
Course Objectives:Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to:
Identify key anatomical structures of the tonsils as demonstrated in sonographic images.
Describe anatomical landmarks of the vocal cords as they appear on sonographic imaging, identifying specific features relevant to ultrasound assessment.
List and characterize common pathologies affecting tonsillar and peritonsillar regions, including their sonographic features and implications.
Identify typical vocal cord motion impairments and correlate each with its distinctive sonographic markers.
Demonstrate standard protocols and techniques for obtaining clear and diagnostically useful sonographic images of the tonsils and vocal cords.
Discuss interpretation of sonographic findings related to tonsils and vocal cords, along with clinical management options based on these assessments.
About Our Speaker:
Tara Cielma, BS, RT(S), RDMS, RDCS, RVT, FSDMS, is a well-established leader in the sonography field. She has worked in clinical practice as a Lead Sonographer, Interim Vascular Lab Supervisor, Clinical Educator, Research Specialist, and POCUS Liaison, as well as in medical affairs, where she seeks to improve infection prevention standards across all specialties. Her credentials include Abdomen, OB/GYN, Neurosonography, Vascular Technology, Fetal Echo, and a credential from ARRT in Sonography. Recently, she was designated as an SDMS Fellow.
Deeply committed to giving back to the sonography community, Tara actively participates in various committees such as the SDMS Events Management Committee (EMC), Nominating Committee, Continuing Medical Education (CME) Review Team, and Micro-volunteer Team. She also contributes her expertise to the Society for Pediatric Radiology (SPR) Education Committee, promoting pediatric sonography globally. Tara’s dedication to advancing the field of sonography extends beyond her professional roles; she reviews manuscripts for the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JDMS), contributes to writing items for ARDMS, and provides hands-on workshops for facilities seeking to enhance their pediatric skillset.
A perpetual student, Tara has an Associate’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, a Bachelor’s Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from Misericordia University, and is currently in graduate school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center earning her Master’s Degree in Health Professions Teaching and Technology.
Tara has numerous chapters, journal articles, and a co-authored pediatric registry review book to her name. Tara’s extensive experience, unwavering dedication, and proven leadership ensure she will be making waves in the field for years to come.
This activity is an approved SDMS CME activity – approved for 1.0 SDMS CME credit.

SDMS CME Tracker System.
Important update from the SDMS:
SDMS no longer allows its CME providers to issue Partial Credit for attendance. If you join late or leave early, the SDMS will no longer permit us to award partial pro-rated credit.
Therefore, from now on, in order to receive CME credit, you must be in attendance for the ENTIRE event via your own unique Zoom link that Zoom emailed to you when you registered. Then, and only then, will USC be able to award you any credit. So, please be prompt and attentive to the time schedule.
