ULTRASOUND SOLUTIONS CORP. is pleased to present Patricia Vargas, DHSc, RVT, Program Director at Touro University’s DMS Program, for a thorough discussion on Transcranial Doppler.
Course Description:
This presentation will discuss the value of Transcranial Doppler in the detection of cerebrovascular disease and its role in monitoring intracranial conditions. Participants will learn the different applications, limitations, and possibilities of Transcranial Doppler ultrasound. The equipment, techniques, and protocols for Transcranial Doppler (TCD) and Transcranial Color Duplex Imaging (TCDI) will be discussed. The session will also provide guidelines and recommendations for best professional practices and best approaches when performing a TCD or TCDI examination. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to analyze cases studies. (Approved for 1 SDMS CME credit, provided one is present for the entire event)
Course Objectives: Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to:
- Describe the value of Transcranial Doppler in the detection of cerebrovascular disease
- Explain common applications of TCD and TCDI
- Identify the role of Transcranial Doppler in the confirmation of brain death
- Discuss the importance of proper cerebral blood flow velocity assessment
About Our Speaker:
Patricia Vargas, DHSc, RVT, earned a Doctor of Health Science degree from A.T. Still University and a Master of Health Science from Nova Southeastern University. Currently, she serves as Professor and Program Director of the new DMS Program at Touro University. Prior to this role, she was a Professor and Clinical Coordinator of the Medical Sonography Program at Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Vargas is a specialized vascular sonographer with over 18 years of experience in the field. Her dedication to education and her commitment to excellence are evident in her research interests, which include vascular sonography, diabetes, clinical education, sonography education, and interprofessional education.
She is an active member of the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS), the Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU), and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM). Her contributions as an invited speaker, subject matter expert, and peer reviewer reflect her passion for advancing the field of Sonography.
This activity is an approved SDMS CME activity – approved for 1.0 SDMS CME credit.

SDMS CME Tracker System.
Important update from the SDMS:
SDMS no longer allows its CME providers to issue Partial Credit for attendance. If you join late or leave early, the SDMS will no longer permit us to award partial pro-rated credit.
Therefore, from now on, in order to receive CME credit, you must be in attendance for the ENTIRE event via your own unique Zoom link that Zoom emailed to you when you registered. Then, and only then, will USC be able to award you any credit. So, please be prompt and attentive to the time schedule.
