Bartkus, MS-HPEd, BSDMS, RDMS, Program Director of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program at Johns Hopkins Schools of Medical Imaging, for an enlightening 90-minute session on the critical role of Sonographers in patient healthcare.
Course Description:
Ring in the new year by renewing your commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care in Sonography! This inspiring session will define the critical impact of patient/person-centered care in improving healthcare outcomes, while highlighting the powerful role Sonographers have in the patient experience. Through compelling data and first-hand patient accounts, our speaker will explore how patient-centered care can transform interactions in Obstetrics and other Ultrasound specialties. Discover how reminding yourself of the vital role you play in your patients’ healthcare journeys can reinvigorate your exam approach, leading to more meaningful connections and improved patient outcomes. (Approved for 1.5 SDMS CME credit, provided one is present for the entire event.)
Course Objectives:Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to:
Define patient-centered care and explore its critical impact on patient outcomes
Identify actionable strategies to incorporate patient-centered care principles in daily ultrasound practice across multiple sonographic specialties
Illustrate the specific impact of patient-centered care in Obstetric Sonography through clinical research and first-hand patient accounts
About Our Speaker:
Hayley O. Bartkus, MS-HPEd, BSDMS, RDMS, currently spends her days geeking out about all things Ultrasound, alongside her students at the Johns Hopkins Schools of Medical Imaging as their Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program Director. Hayley’s sonography story began at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where she graduated first-generation Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography in 2017. Hayley credits her excitement about Ultrasound Education to her faculty at RIT, having gone on to earn a Master of Science in Health Professions Education from Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine in 2022. Passionate about pulse-waves and patient-centered care, Hayley is committed to advancing the field of diagnostic medical sonography with a mission to improve patient outcomes through her advocacy and work as an Educator, Sonographer, and host of her podcast 256 Shades of Gray.
Hayley began her professional career in the Radiology Department at Albany Medical Center in 2017. In 2018, Hayley returned to her home city of Philadelphia where she continued in the general and pediatric specialties before transitioning to high-risk obstetric sonography at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. During her time at UPenn, Hayley participated in cutting-edge clinical research including uterine transplantation and medical device trials for pelvic floor wellness, and aligned resident and advanced practice provider ultrasound education.
In 2023, Hayley co-founded EchoMentor – a digital ultrasound education platform and study hall where sonography professionals can unite for meaningful discourse and mentorship. Honored as AS Software’s 2023 Sonography Impact Community Advocate Award winner and Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography’s 2024 Annual Conference keynote speaker, Hayley continues to pursue her mission of advocacy for equitable, evidence-based, patient-centered medical care with an emphasis on the importance of Sonographers and high-quality ultrasonic imaging.

SDMS CME Tracker System.
Important update from the SDMS:
SDMS no longer allows its CME providers to issue Partial Credit for attendance. If you join late or leave early, the SDMS will no longer permit us to award partial pro-rated credit.
Therefore, from now on, in order to receive CME credit, you must be in attendance for the ENTIRE event via your own unique Zoom link that Zoom emailed to you when you registered. Then, and only then, will USC be able to award you any credit. So, please be prompt and attentive to the time schedule. We apologize for any inconvenience, but again, this is a new SDMS policy we must abide by. Thank you for understanding.
