Ultrasound Ergonomics: What Role Does the Sonographer Play in Mitigating Injury Risk?

October 23, 2024 @ 7:00 pm 8:00 pm EDT

ULTRASOUND SOLUTIONS CORP. is pleased to welcome back CAROLYN COFFIN, in collaboration with Michael McElroy, from Canon Medical Systems, and Tricia Turner, from South Hills School of Business and Technology, for a comprehensive discussion on keeping ourselves ergonomically safe.

This free 1-hour event can help you fulfill your Lab’s IAC recommendation/requirement for 1 CME credit specifically addressing the topic of “Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WRMSD)”.

Course Description:

Sonographers are central to our ergonomic picture and there are things we can do to keep ourselves safe. This presentation’s three speakers will each cover a piece of this topic. Divided into sections, one will deal with things we can do to keep ourselves safe, another with the evolution of the ultrasound system and how it can impact work postures, and the last will bridge self-care and the importance of exercise for a healthy ultrasound career.

This CME Event is generously sponsored by:

Canon Medical Systems

We appreciate Canon’s support of our CME Events!

Course Objectives:  Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe what work postures can cause injury and how the Sonographer can change those postures
  • Discuss how the designs of ultrasound systems have evolved and contributed to more neutral work postures
  • Present the importance of exercise and other aspects of self-care for a healthier work life

Michael McElroy is a Cardiac Sonographer by training and has been in the Ultrasound industry for many years. While in the field and working with thousands of Sonographers over the years, Mike encountered many people scanning in pain and many that had to leave daily scanning. When he joined Canon Medical Systems, he learned about the new ergonomics of their Ultrasound equipment, then educated himself on ultrasound ergonomics and pioneered the Healthy Sonographer program. He has been speaking across the country on the topic and trained the Canon applications team – together, they have educated thousands of Sonographers in the process.

Tricia Turner, BS, RDMS, RVT, FSDMS, received her BS Degree in Exercise and Sports Science from the Pennsylvania State University in 1996 and is a 1999 graduate of the South Hills School of Business & Technology Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
