Advanced Cardiac Sonography (ACS): A Look at Where We’ve Been and What’s Next

ULTRASOUND SOLUTIONS CORP. is excited to welcome back Dr. Joy Guthrie, PhD, ACS, RDMS, RDCS, RVT, FSDMS, FASE, Program Director of the Community Regional Medical Center Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Advanced Cardiac Sonography Programs, for an enlightening discussion on the role of and pathway to Advanced Cardiac Sonography.

Course Description:

Have you ever felt that you are ready to enter a Sonography career track that would allow you to practice at an advanced level in the Echocardiography Laboratory? Advanced Cardiac Sonographers are committed to improving lab quality and efficiency through preparing preliminary echo assessments, performing advanced echocardiograms, mentoring staff and students, as well as developing and implementing educational plans, facilitating continuous quality improvement, and coordinating cardiac ultrasound research.

This course will provide information on the development of Advanced Cardiac Sonography, pathways to achieving that credential, and describe how the ACS curriculum is designed for Cardiac Sonographers to complete a progression of their education specifically designed in areas that employers are seeking for their respective laboratories. (Approved for 1 SDMS CME credit, provided one is present for the entire event)

Course Objectives:  Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to:

• Describe the historical perspective of Advanced Practice in Sonography
• Explain the current status of CAAHEP accreditation, credentialing, and ACS programs
• Define the need for these type of Advanced Sonographers in the workforce to assist our physicians
• Outline future goals for the advancement of Sonographers

About Our Speaker: 

Joy Guthrie, PhD, ACS, RDMS, RDCS, RVT, FSDMS, FASE, works clinically as the Advanced Practice Sonographer in all imaging modalities at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, CA. She is also the Program Director of the CRMC Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Advanced Cardiac Sonography Programs. Joy is a Past President of SDMS and is actively involved in sonographer-led research.

Important update from the SDMS:

SDMS no longer allows its CME providers to issue Partial Credit for attendance. If you join late or leave early, the SDMS will no longer permit us to award partial pro-rated credit.

Therefore, from now on, in order to receive CME credit, you must be in attendance for the ENTIRE event via your own unique Zoom link that Zoom emailed to you when you registered. Then, and only then, will USC be able to award you any credit. So, please be prompt and attentive to the time schedule. We apologize for any inconvenience, but again, this is a new SDMS policy we must abide by. Thank you for understanding.
