Course Description:
Are you a new Ultrasound educator, supervisor for students at a clinical site, or a seasoned faculty member looking for new perspective? This session will introduce the participant to various learning styles, the importance of “knowing your audience”, and how to connect with today’s learners. It will identify elements of effective teaching and explore what is important for successful learning, in a classroom or clinical setting. (Approved for 1 SDMS CME credit, provided one is present for the entire event.)

About Our Speaker:
Yosefa Joy Pessin, DHSc, MS, RDMS, RDCS, RVT is a tenured Associate Professor and the Program Chair and Director of the Diagnostic Medical Imaging Program at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. She has a BS in Diagnostic Medical Imaging from SUNY Downstate, an MS from the University at Albany in Curriculum Development and Educational Technology, and a Doctoral degree in Health Science from AT Still University. Dr. Pessin holds registry certifications in Abdomen, Ob/Gyn, Adult Echocardiography, and Vascular Technology.
Yosefa has worked clinically at world-renowned hospitals, as well as in outpatient and private practice settings. She brings her vast clinical experience into the classroom. A recipient of the SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University Dr. Donald Scherl Faculty Excellence Award, and School of Health Professions Research Awards, her passion for ultrasound education is well known. As Director of a CAAHEP-accredited sonography program, Dr. Pessin is involved in all facets of the program’s curriculum development and incorporates current research, clinical skills, and didactic content into the coursework. Additionally, she is actively involved in various college service committees.
Dr. Pessin was honored as the 2022 Distinguished Educator at the 2022 SDMS Annual Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, along with being a two-time past recipient of the SDMS Kenneth Gottesfeld Research Award. Her research areas of interest and publications in the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography focus on infection control prevention, educational technology, and simulation. Furthermore, she is a Senior member of the AIUM and a manuscript reviewer for JUM. Dr. Pessin also serves as a chaplain for the United States Chaplain Corp.
This activity is an approved SDMS CME activity – approved for 1.0 SDMS CME credit.

Important update from the SDMS:
SDMS no longer allows its CME providers to issue Partial Credit for attendance. If you join late or leave early, the SDMS will no longer permit us to award partial pro-rated credit.
Therefore, from now on, in order to receive CME credit, you must be in attendance for the ENTIRE event via your own unique Zoom link that Zoom emailed to you when you registered. Then, and only then, will USC be able to award you any credit. So, please be prompt and attentive to the time schedule. We apologize for any inconvenience, but again, this is a new SDMS policy we must abide by. Thank you for understanding.
