Course Description:
How often have you had the chance to compare sonographic images to those from MRI or CT imaging? This presentation will briefly discuss the imaging concepts of Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and Ultrasound. Normal anatomical structures and appearance will be examined as it relates to CT, MRI, and Ultrasound. Attendees will also learn basic descriptive terminology for each modality and finally, there will be case studies where the attendee can apply the concepts learned. (Approved for 1 SDMS CME credit)
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to:
• Describe the basic imaging theories for Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and Ultrasound
• Describe basic structures seen on CT, MRI, and Ultrasound
• Compare corresponding structures on CT, MRI, and Ultrasound
• Recognize structures seen in case studies using CT, MRI and Ultrasound images
About Our Speaker:
Matthew Ryan, MSHA, RDMS, RVT, RT(R), has been in the medical field for 28 years. Although he started his career as a Radiologic Technologist, he has devoted over 25 years to Sonography. Matt has worked in a wide variety of locations including large academic institutions, urban and rural hospitals, as well as multi-specialty clinics.
Eventually, Matt transitioned from onsite Clinical Instructor to a full-time teaching position. His areas of instruction included Gynecology, Small Parts, Interventional Procedures, and Vascular Sonography. More recently, Matt has added to his academic teaching responsibilities by managing all aspects of a student’s clinical training as the Clinical Coordinator for the Sonography Program at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center’s School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Matt was instrumental in developing, designing, and implementing the Scan Lab portion of his students’ training. He has also developed and implemented training courses for Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and First Year Radiology Residents. Outside of his primary job, he develops and presents lectures to various professional organizations, both locally and nationally. He also co-directs a vascular seminar course.
When Matt is not immersed in sonographic matters, he umpires for ages 11 – 16 baseball leagues and relaxes with his wife and two daughters in Southeast Wisconsin.
This activity has been approved for 1.0 SDMS CME credit. The CME participant roster will be reported by Ultrasound Solutions Corp. to the SDMS CME Tracker System.
