Description:
In experienced hands, Ultrasound imaging of the spinal cord provides an excellent assessment in neonates and early infant groups. Identifying and understanding normal anatomical appearances is imperative for the interpretation of the spinal canal and its contents. This presentation will review spinal cord anatomy with sonographic depictions of normal and abnormal findings. Imaging protocols, documentation, and worksheet content will be discussed. (Approved for 1 SDMS CME credit)

Course Objectives: Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to:
• List clinical indications and protocol assessments for neonatal and infant spine imaging.
• Identify normal anatomy and sonographic appearance of the spine and surrounding structures.
• Recognize imaging pitfalls and accurately identify abnormalities.
• Discuss the role and expectations for the Sonographer when imaging the pediatric spine.
• State how to write up a report/worksheet for pediatric spine ultrasound examinations.

About Our Speaker:
Melissa Alvarez-Motto, BS, RDMS, RVT is a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer and Vascular Technologist with 22 years of clinical experience. In addition, she holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Mercy College in Health Care Management with a focus in Health Psychology. Registered in Abdomen, Breast, Obstetrics/Gynecology, and Pediatrics, Melissa has worked as a Sonographer primarily in hospital settings, attending to emergency, in-patient/out-patient, pediatrics, interventional, and critical care patients on Long Island, NY. She co-authored the ultrasound section of the first Radiology Resident Resource Manual at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and has been an educator and clinical mentor to many Sonography students, residents, and colleagues. Melissa now owns her own office where she provides private ultrasound tutorial services, cross training, scan time solutions, and protocol assistance. Her focal zone is set on promoting the highest level of quality imaging and attentive patient care.

This activity has been approved for 1.0 SDMS CME credit.
The CME participant roster will be reported by Ultrasound Solutions Corp. to the SDMS CME Tracker System.
